Google 20% Project Launch 🚀
At Google, I concepted and designed the Aha! Global Insights & Research Hub, a 20% project aimed at streamlining data retrieval for internal employee researchers.
While working on a visual designer/presentation designer contract at Google, I noticed that my team was having difficulty navigating the research database. This data was located in a very dense Google Table file (e.g., excel, google sheets) with filters. MBA data researchers felt this was not intuitive for a quick scanning. During my tenure, another tool was released internally that could index search through my Google table.
By integrating multiple internal tools into a single interface, we addressed inefficiencies and made accessing research data much simpler.
I was not allowed to share screen captures from the actual tech due to corporate guidelines, but I can still verbally explain the project. I was brought back to promote the portal in 2018, and I can share those designs in the next section.
Key features included a search results page which could show up to 15 "3x5 notecards" for quick data scanning. Previously advanced search functionality with filters and sorting options. These improvements reduced the average time to find relevant data, significantly boosting productivity.
The Aha! Hub has been in use since 2014 and was accessible to Googlers via go/AHA until recently.
In 2018, I was called back to design awareness campaign posters, editable templates, and team swag. These were distributed globally across Google's offices.
